This is the cottage on
Birch Lake owned by Chris & Mabel North (Eva's sister). Milly Crackel,
Chris & Mabel's only child, is shown at left with her mother, Mabel. Milly
inherited the cottage and when Milly & her husband Eldon decided to sell
the cottage in the early 1950s, Milly approached my dad (Wayne Milne) in hopes
that he would buy it. He told her he was sure he couldn't afford it. Milly
said, "$3,000 total price. You pay $300 a year, no interest." My dad
said he couldn't refuse those terms. So my 5 siblings and I benefitted from
Milly's generous offer with many years
of wonderful memories. What made the location even finer was that our Grandpa
Lester & Grandma Eva's permanent home was right next door.
